It’s summer in Minnesota! We made it to another season of sunshine, lakes, and lots of fun! We’re here to help you make the most of these summer months in the Twin Cities by bringing you all the fun and activities in one easy guide so you don’t miss a thing! This is month #7! July 2 – July 9: Lakeville’s Pan-O-Prog | Various Times A week of fun for the whole family kicking off with fireworks, a carnival, bingo, food, and more!
July 4: Lakeville’s Fireworks | 6-10:30pm Tons of fun at Lakeville North High School, including food booths, FREE inflatables, a balloon artist, and of course, FIREWORKS!
July 4: Independence Day Celebration | 10am-5pm Celebrate the United States’ birthday at Historic Fort Snelling and explore the history of freedom in 19th century America. Just like in the 1800s, hear cannon and musket salutes, watch a military dress parade, listen to fife and drum music and attend a mock battle.
July 4: Afton 4th of July Parade | Noon Start Celebrate the 4th of July with lots of fun for the whole family, including food, drinks, music, and trolley rides!
July 4: Rock and Rockets at Mystic Lake | 5-10:30pm It’s a star-spangled day of music, food, fun and fireworks! Celebrate America’s birthday at our fun-filled festival featuring live music, popular local food trucks, fireworks and more!
July 8: Family Art Day | 11am-4pm Get creative by making different kinds of art inspired by history and nature. Visit art stations around the site, take a peek inside the historic buildings, have a picnic, play old-fashioned games on the lawn and stay for the Mendota Day parade. FREE.
July 8: Anoka’s Riverfest and Craft Fair | 9am-5pm Anoka Riverfest has something for everyone. Spend a great day in historic downtown Anoka browsing booths or enjoying free, live music on two stages, a food court with all your favorite fair foods, family activities, and more. FREE.
July 8-9: Dragon Festival | 10am-5pm Dragon Festival is a two-day event that takes place at Lake Phalen in St. Paul, MN in July, celebrating the diversity and culture of Asia. FREE.
July 12-16: Maple Grove Days | Various Times Five-day city festival hosting over 40 events for all ages; car show, art fair, races, business expo, parade, music. Fun for families; children’s run, kids parade, diaper derby, entertainment, outdoor movie. Inflatable rides and booths from local community organizations.
July 12-16: Ramsey County Fair | Various Times A small town county fair in the middle of the big city! FREE.
July 14: Bluegrass and Beer @ Caponi Art Park | 5:30-8:30pm Join us at the park for an evening celebrating music, beer, and food. Lay out a blanket in our Theatre in the Woods and enjoy the music of the Sawtooth Brothers while you sip on a beer from Urban Growler Brewing Company and a bite to eat from New Bohemia Wurst + Bier Hau.
July 14-16: Highland Fest | Various Times Highland Fest marks summer’s mid-point with a place to gather with friends and neighbors, with so many great activities there is sure to be something for everyone. The line up for the weekend includes live music, a beer tent, the juried art fair, a petting zoo, wiener dog races, the business fair, Home Expo inflatable rides and games, the 5k road race and an exciting array of food and beverage vendors, community picnic, a meat raffle/bingo, Zumba in the park, wine tasting, movie in the park, the book mobile, a yoga class and the inaugural All Ford Car and Truck Show.
July 14-16: Middle Eastern Festival | Various Times Bring the whole family! There’s something for everyone at the St. George Middle Eastern Festival, including a kids’ tent featuring mini-golf, inflatable slide, and face painting.
July 15: Rondo Days Grande Parade and Festival | 10am-7pm Spend the day experiencing the exhibits, music, food, and parade of Rondo Days–a celebration of the heart of St. Paul’s African American Neighborhood. Grande Parade starts at 10am and the festival usually runs from noon to 7pm.
July 15: MN Scottish Fair and Highland Games | 10am-8pm Get a taste of Scotland and all it has to offer right here in the Twin Cities!
July 15: Burnsville’s International Festival | 3-9pm Join us at the nineth annual International Festival of Burnsville in Burnsville’s Nicollet Commons Park to celebrate Burnsville’s rich cultural diversity!
July 15-16: AirExpo | Various Times Don’t miss your chance to see these heroes of the skies and their amazing airplanes!
July 19-22: Minneapolis Aquatennial | Various Times The Aquatennial is the official civic celebration of the City of Minneapolis, and it’s filled with lots of family fun including the largest nighttime parade in Minnesota!
July 20-23: Excelsior’s Crazy Days | Various Times An annual three-day sidewalk sale event where local businesses and vendors offer great deals and products.
July 21: Family and Friends Fun Day @ Dakota City Heritage Village | 10am This summer, bring your kids, grandkids and friends to visit the past and experience life at the turn of the last century on our Family & Friends Fun Day. Stroll through the museum and see horse-drawn buggies and farm machinery from the good ol’ days.
July 21-22: Twin Cities Carifest | Various Times Twin Cities Carifest’s purpose is to expand awareness of the culture of the Caribbean through music, food, dance and the arts. Enjoy the Islands without leaving the state.
July 21-23: Stillwater Lumberjack Days | Various Times Fun for the whole family!
July 21-23: Slice of Shoreview | Various Times Annual festival held to celebrate life in Shoreview. It features a wide variety of family-oriented activities including a carnival, parade, art and craft fair, food vendors, various displays and demonstrations, talent show, lots of entertainment and of course, fireworks on Friday and Saturday night.
July 30: Rice Street Festival Parade | 1pm This will be held at Rice and Lawson fields! This event will be great for kids of all ages! There will be food trucks, pony rides, inflatables, organizations making crafts with the children and much more!
We are thrilled to announce the details of our 2nd Annual Family Fun Day Event, presented by Minnehaha Academy and The Urgency Room! Join us on Saturday, August 5 for a morning of family fun. We will have lots of activities for kids geared towards 2-8 years old, but all children are welcome! Inflatables, face painting, crafts and more! Story Time Trolley in Stillwater: June 3- October 28 | This event for families includes a short ride on the trolley with an author or storyteller! Your $5 registration includes a token to board the trolley, a discount for 20% off a children’s book the day of the event and a snack after your ride.
Kangaroo Crossing @ MN Zoo May-September | Regular Hours The Minnesota Zoo is bringing the “Land Down Under” up north this summer with an immersive walkabout experience along the Northern Trail. It will leave you feeling like you were just hiking in Australia, as you explore the multi-species habitat and see these animals up close. You literally walk through the exhibit with these outback ambassadors!
Music in the Mall @ MOA January -November | Select Dates and Times Mall of America® has an exciting opportunity for school and community groups to perform and share their talents with Mall guests through the MOA Music in the Mall. This series runs January through mid-November and is available on select days each month.
Toddler Tuesdays at MOA Tuesdays | 10am-Noon Toddler Tuesdays is a program that provides events, free entertainment and discounts especially for toddlers. Events include special character appearances, arts and crafts, story time and much more! FREE.
Wee Wednesdays at Midtown Global Market Wednesdays | 10:30am-1pm Wee Wednesdays showcase free educational programming, fun crafts and great meal deals each Wednesday morning at Midtown Global Market! Dance with them, experience live puppet theater, learn to cook fun items together in the kitchen, and even pet live animals from the Como Zoo. FREE.
Kids at the Castle: Third Friday Playdates (American Swedish Institute) In the hour before the museum opens, join ASI for visual play, storytelling, music, movement and crafts inspired by ASI’s current exhibits- activities that will encourage creative minds and active hands. Recommended for ages 2-5. $5 per family. Registration not required; check in at the Information Desk by 11 a.m. on the day of the program. Adult accompaniment required.
