It’s Minnesota’s Great Get-Together: 12 days of food and fun that us moms wouldn’t miss for the world. We can’t decide if we like cheese curds or the Sweet Martha’s cookies better, we each have our favorite traditions and we love seeing our kids experience this uniquely Minnesota event. We look forward to this event all year, we pack, plan and research but it is also bittersweet as we know the fair means summer has come to an end. As moms, we all do special things to prepare and make the day fun, drama-free and memorable for our families. Here are 15 surefire signs you’re a mom at the Minnesota State Fair.

  1. You have a map, Blue Ribbon book, installed the State Fair app and you made some sort of homemade document list just to make sure you will hit everything you want.15 Signs You’re A Mom At the Minnesota State Fair | Twin Cities Moms Blog
  2. You help out a mom that you don’t know: extra ride tickets, diaper, wipes or directions to the lactation station.
  3. You bring resealable bags for your Sweet Martha’s cookies so the leftovers stay extra fresh on the way home.
  4. You tell your kids to step away from your favorite fair food. You might have also told them the food was “spicy” so they wouldn’t take a bite.15 Signs You’re A Mom At the Minnesota State Fair | Twin Cities Moms Blog
  5. Hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer. You, kids, stroller handle, even your legs. Bringing hand sanitizer is your closest feeling of clean during the day and a mom essential at the fair.
  6. Your kids are most interested in animal private parts and their poop then the actual birth experience or educational information in the animal exhibits.
  7. You’re pushing a stroller with a beer or wine glass in the cup holder.15 Signs You’re A Mom At the Minnesota State Fair | Twin Cities Moms Blog
  8. You will walk an extra fifty feet, take your stroller over a curb, or do anything if it means keeping your kids from making eye contact with anyone at the plastic toy stand.
  9. You bring your kids to the peach stand or bring a fruit from home because you feel like they need to eat something remotely healthy.15 Signs You’re A Mom At the Minnesota State Fair | Twin Cities Moms Blog
  10. You keep the kids up way past their bedtime, watch the fireworks and rationalize by saying, “there are just a few days of summer left.”
  11. You know wipes for hands are essential for both kids and adults.
  12. You love the giant slide just as much as your kids.15 Signs You’re A Mom At the Minnesota State Fair | Twin Cities Moms Blog
  13. You find yourself telling your kids “when I was a kid” fair stories.
  14. You smile and let other moms with double strollers zipper merge into the sea of people walking.
  15. At the fair, you feel nostalgic about being a Minnesotan, proud you are raising your family here and proud to be a mom in Minnesota.
