In 2017, we’ve been providing you with monthly event guides so you don’t miss a thing! Month #11 is a little more quiet with Thanksgiving, but we’ll update this guide with new additions as they come.
November 3: Forever Wild Family Friday, Full Moon | 7:00-8:30pm Head to Lebanon Hills Visitor Center for family fun with park activities and s’mores. Meet the moon through myths, stories, games, and the spotting scope. All ages. FREE.
November 3-5: Minneapolis Art and Gift Expo | Varies Celebrate the holidays with a dazzling array of homewares, holiday decor, jewelry, accessories, pottery, sculpture, textiles, paintings, and so much more. Find fabulous gifts from accomplished artisans and unique boutiques across the city—all under one roof at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
November 4: Gobbler Games | 10:00am-1:00pm 20th Anniversary of Gobbler Games. Centennial Middle School. It’s a low-key competition in a variety of athletic events. Teams consist of one adult and one child ages 4-14 years. Registration not required. Bounce house, games, photo station, refreshments provided. FREE.
November 4: Try Hockey for Free Day | Varies On Saturday, November 4th, USA Hockey and 500 local association across the country will host Try Hockey For Free Day! Participating locations encourage kids, ages 4 to 9, to come try youth hockey as part of Come Play Hockey Month. All locations will have limited equipment available for use.
November 4: The Velveteen Rabbit | 1:30pm The whole family will marvel as Margery Williams’ classic tale of a well-worn stuffed rabbit is brought to life through music, dance, and narration. San Francisco’s ODC/Dance, one of America’s most exciting and acclaimed contemporary dance companies, has created a family treat that has captivated Bay Area audiences for 30 years. November 4-5: Healthy Life Expo | 10:00am-5:00pm See up to 200 local and national exhibitors showcasing everything to help you look, feel, and be your very best including: doctors, clinics, nutritionists, healthy cooking chefs, in-home fitness products, authors, women’s & men’s health, yoga, martial arts, and more! Featuring 3 stages of speakers, seminars, and demonstrations running every hour on the hour. All stages are absolutely FREE to attend with admittance into the Healthy Life Expo.
November 4: Twin Cities Birth and Baby Expo | 10:00am-3:00pm Since 2009, the Twin Cities Birth and Baby Expo has been bringing together under one roof expert speakers, educational events, and plenty of exhibitors that offer healthy and empowering services and products every year. Join us to explore, learn, and celebrate the transformative experience of growing your family! The Expo is packed with speakers, presentations, classes, and other special events, making it more like a conference while still having the same number of high-quality exhibitors. Special events will be scheduled to run all day long, so no matter when you come, you are bound to learn something new!
November 4: Nature Arts & Crafts Fair 2017 | 10:00am-3:00pm Start your holiday shopping in a more relaxed environment. Visit with local artisans and crafters of jewelry, felting, painting, natural beauty products, and more. Enjoy the atmosphere of Hyland Lake Park Reserve with a hike after you shop. All vendor fees are donated to VEAP-Bloomington Food Shelf. Free
November 4-5: Mother Daughter Fall Event | 2:00pm-11:00am The Girls Are Powerful overnight Mother-Daughter retreat is designed to strengthen the relationships between mothers and daughters through empowerment activities. Participants will have the opportunity to share lifelong memories and discover new things about one another. This overnight at the Holiday Inn Lake Elmo offers the opportunity for a mother and daughter to spend quality time together away from the rest of life’s distractions. The Mother-Daughter Event will help you grow in mind, body, and spirit. Our diverse range of activities allows for both personal reflection, skill building, and relaxation. For girls ages 7-14.
November 5: Slice of the Twin Cities | 1:00-5:00pm Minnesota Monthly’s family-friendly event providing attendees with freshly prepared pizza, seasonal beer and wine, live music, access to the orchard, bonfires, hayrides, playgrounds and more.
November 5: The Puppet Adventures of Ned the Naturalist | 1:00-3:00pm Follow Ned the Nerdy Naturalist as he stops Trasher the Trash Can from trashing nature. Try artmaking with a take-home activity related to the show. Performance begins promptly at 1:00 PM. Art making follows the performance and is offered until 3:00PM. Children 17 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
November 6: Climbing Divas | 6:30-8:30pmWomen, take yourself to new heights and learn the ropes through hands-on experience in our Climbing Cave. Wear comfortable clothing and get ready to soar! All equipment provided. Instructed by expert climber Carolyn Hansen. Sign up early because these classes are popular!
November 9: Stillwater Ladies Night Out | 5:00-8:30pm Start the evening at 5pm at Gammy & Gumpy’s where you’ll get your first drawing slip. Then shop and dine your way around downtown with your friends, all while collecting tickets for every $10 you spend at participating businesses. Finish off at our Finale at Pub 112. Drawing slips will be collected at the finale and prizes will be drawn promptly at 8:30! You must be present to win at the finale, but many shops have drawings throughout downtown. Lots of chances for fun prizes and giveaways!
November 9: Burnsville Uncorked | 7:00-9:30pm The Burnsville Rotary hosts their 15th annual Burnsville Uncorked fundraising event. Enjoy wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres. Proceeds for the event allow Burnsville Rotary to fulfill its commitment to community charities. Sponsored in part by Red Lion Liquors.
November 9: Santa’s Arrival at the Mall of America | 5:30-6:30pm Don’t miss the fun as Santa is greeted in grand holiday style by the Rosemount High School Marching Band, who will be heading to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this year! There will be holiday activities, face painting, balloon sculptors and treats provided by Nestle Toll House and Caribou Coffee. Be sure to stick around as Santa lights up Nickelodeon Universe with holiday magic!
November 9-12: Autumn Festival – An Arts and Crafts Affair | Varies Hundreds of the Nation’s finest artists and crafters display and sell their handcrafted works. Voted one of the top 100 shows in the country according to Sunshine Artist Magazine. Entertainment, hourly gift certificate drawings, food & drink, Free Parking, and lots of family fun!
November 10-11: Minnesota Valley Men’s and Women’s Chorales “Christmas in November” Concert | 7:30pm Minnesota Valley Men’s and Women’s Chorales are separate organizations that come together bi-annually to share their love of music and song with the community. Each group sings separate sets and combine for a grand finale presentation.
November 10-12: Minneapolis Holiday Boutique | Varies Designer rooms, Artisan products, Ladies Night Out on Friday with prizes, Mother/Daughter day on Saturday with door prizes, make it take it workshops. Christopher Straub of Lifetime’s Project Runway is back and will be picking the best of the best and must-have gifts.
November 11: Twin Cities Fairytale Ball – Diamond Edition | 11:00am-12:00pm Get ready to walk the red carpet into The Twin Cities Fairytale Ball: Diamond Edition. This talented princess cast will dazzle you at this one-of-a-kind event. Guests will enjoy a theatrical princess show, vocal performances, royal dance, guest coronation, professional portraits, and so much more! No expense will be spared to ensure you have the time of your life. There will be photographers, DJ, and so many more surprises in store for guests!
November 11: Family Day: Fest! Merry Mansion | 10:00am-2:00pm The 2017 Nordic Holiday Season opens at the American Swedish Institute with a day of fun for the entire family. Discover Nordic and Romanian traditions through the holiday rooms in the Turnblad Mansion or wander through the new Skål exhibit and meet experts on Norwegian aquavit. Have the whole family make a craft together, stop in the Ballroom for a 1 p.m. performance by musical storytellers Impossible Salt
November 11-12: Holiday Harvest Wine & Food Festival | 10:00am-5:00pm Start your celebration of the season by enjoying holiday foods and wines on the Great River Road Wine Trail! Advance tickets for the event are $25 per person. Sunday only tickets are $20 per person. Each ticket holder will receive a wine trail glass and a six-bottle wine tote at the first winery visited. Their ticket and wine glass will entitle the holder to free wine and food tasting at each winery. You can pay for your ticket at the winery or online, using PayPal. Online purchasers should bring their PayPal receipt to the first winery visited. Plan to enjoy the event for the entire weekend, and visit all 11 wineries.

November 18: Bachman’s Holiday Open House | 9:30am-1:00pm Kick off your holiday season at Bachman’s! Be there when Santa and Albert the Elf arrive from the North Pole at 9:30 a.m. in a reindeer-drawn sleigh. Watch their annual holiday play, participate in a sing-along, enjoy live Christmas music, take part in kids’ crafts, meet Santa’s reindeer, snack on cookies from the North Pole, and have plenty of festive fun!
November 18: Kids Clothing and Equipment Fall Sale | 7:30am-12:00pm Moms of twins selling toys, books, furniture, clothes (preemie – teen), strollers, equipment and more!! Open to the public!
November 18: Rice Park Tree Lighting and Winter Skate Rink Opening | 3:30-10:00pm Those who attend the free grand opening event will be the first to skate on the free, outdoor, artificially-chilled ice rink in downtown Saint Paul as well as view the 11th annual lighting of Rice Park and the city’s holiday tree will be lit with 15,000 LED lights. There will be musical performances, photo opportunities with live reindeer and sleigh, fireworks and more.
November 18: A Yankee Thanksgiving Tour | 1:00-2:30pm In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving a national holiday. At Kelley Farm, experience what preparations for a Thanksgiving celebration were like 150 years ago. On a 90-minute guided tour, visitors will hike along the wooded trails to the historic Kelley Farm to meet farm animals and visit the historic house filled with the sights and smells of a harvest celebration. Following the tour, pie and refreshments will be served in the visitor center.
November 19: A Charlie Brown Christmas Story Live on Stage | Varies This brand new touring production of A Charlie Brown Christmas Live on Stage by Charles M. Schulz features everyone’s favorite Peanuts gang– Linus, Lucy, Snoopy, Sally, and more, all led by the lovable Charlie Brown– as they discover the true meaning of Christmas. When Charlie Brown becomes discouraged by the materialism of the season, Lucy convinces him to direct the neighborhood Christmas play. In typical Charlie Brown fashion, things go awry when he selects a tiny fir tree for the production. It’s up to Linus to save the day and remind everyone of the real message of the holiday. A Charlie Brown Christmas Live on Stage, Schulz’s timeless story of the spirit of Christmas, showcases the unforgettable music of Vince Guaraldi, performed by a three-piece ensemble on stage, as well as a concert of beloved holiday carols led by the Peanuts characters.
November 21-22: The Hip Hop Nutcracker | 7:30pm The Hip Hop Nutcracker is an modern twist on a holiday classic performed by a supercharged cast of a dozen all-star dancers, DJ and violinist. Through the spells cast by the mysterious Drosselmeyer, Maria-Clara and her Nutcracker prince, travel back in time to the moment when her parents first meet in a nightclub. Digital scenery transforms E.T.A. Hoffmann’s story of sugarplums into 1980s Brooklyn. The Hip Hop Nutcracker celebrates love, community and the magic of New Year’s Eve.
November 22: Winter Lighting Ceremony | 6:00-6:45pm More than 200,000 mini lights, 230 streetlight snowflakes and a 30-foot-tall tree will come to life again this November, and all Burnsville residents and winter-lighting enthusiasts are invited to attend. Residents and visitors are invited to attend the ceremony and stroll through the lights. The ceremony includes a special appearance by Mr. and Mrs. Claus as well as entertainment by the Burnsville High School Freestyle Singers and the Sioux Trail Elementary Choir.
November 24-26: St Croix Ballet The Nutcracker | Varies The Stillwater Nutcracker, now in it’s 27th year, is a family friendly version choreographed to the music of Tchaikovsky and follows the traditional storyline of a young girl named Clara and her Christmas dream. Our version includes a live narration and the exuberant dancing of young children ages 5 through the professional level.
November 24-26: Excelsior Christkindlsmarkt 2017 | Varies At Excelsior Christkindlsmarkt, there is a little bit of fun for everyone! KinderWorld is a main attraction for the children, where they can enjoy story-telling, face painting, parades and more! Adults can keep the fun going even after the events end, at the Biergarten located at the Excelsior Brewing Company.
November 24-27: Hmong New Year Celebration | Varies United Hmong Family, Inc. warmly invites the community in welcoming and celebrating the new year at the 39th Annual MN Hmong New Year 2017-2018 at the Saint Paul RiverCentre.
November 25: Hastings Holiday Hoopla | 8:30am-6:30pm Join us on Small Business Saturday for the 6th Annual Hastings Holiday Hoopla. We will have all the great activities again this year including: reindeer sleigh rides, horse & wagon Rides, gourmet s’mores, pictures with Santa and the Grinch, Mrs. Claus, ice carving, Who Hair, face painting and carolers. It all wraps up with Lighted Parade down 2nd Street.
November 25: Stocking Stroll at Maplewood Mall | 9:00-11:00am Save the Date for our annual Stocking Stroll! Modeled after our Halloween Trick or Treat Night and our fantastic Easter Egg Hunt, The Stocking Stroll will include a fun scavenger hunt for holiday treats where kiddos will fill their stockings at over 20 stations. The first 500 kids to register will receive a BINGO card and a treat stocking to take around the mall and collect their goodies. When they’ve filled their card, they are eligible to win one of our fabulous holiday prizes! November 5: Chocoholic Frolic Run | Varies Love chocolate? This run is for you! The Chocoholic Frolic 5k &10k races are chip timed runs that reward you with chocolate at the finish line. Just want to take your sweet time? Run, jog, or walk your way through these courses and enjoy chocolate stops along the way! At the finish line you will be greeted with melted chocolate and treats for dipping.
November 11: Chaska Turkey Trot | 8:00am Join us for a fun family event on the second Saturday in November at the Chaska Turkey Trot 5k Race. Runners, walkers, and local residents gather at the Chaska High School to raise money for two worthy organizations. The Chaska DECA Club and the Chaska ROTARY Club join forces to bring a great event to all.
November 18: Jingle Bell Run Twin Cities | 9:00am-12:00pm Be part of the largest holiday-themed 5K race series anywhere – and join the movement to conquer arthritis! The Arthritis Foundation’s Jingle Bell Run is a fun way to get out, get moving and raise funds and awareness to cure America’s #1 cause of disability. In communities nationwide, this annual event brings together people from all walks of life to shout “Yes, we will live life to its fullest while searching for a cure!” As a Champion of Yes, kick off your holidays by helping conquer arthritis once and for all! Wear a holiday-themed costume. Tie jingle bells to your shoelaces. Show off your ugly Christmas sweater. November 23: Drumstick Dash | 8:00am The Drumstick Dash 10K course laps twice around Lake Harriet. The race is chip timed by MTEC, is USATF certified, and all participants receive a technical shirt. Course is moderately hilly on north and south ends, flat on east and west sides. Also there is a Cranberry Cruise One Mile, Cranberry Kids Half Mile, and a Pi Run.
November 23: Giving Thanks 5K | 8:30am Run or walk around Arbor Lakes in Maple Grove, MN on USATF certified 5k course with family & friends then return to Complimentary Claddagh Irish Pub & Restaurant for handy Breakfast sandwiches, Beer, cold and hot light beverages
November 23: Turkey Day 5K | 8:00am Since 1989, the Turkey Day 5K has brought family and friends together to start the day in a healthy way. Join runners, joggers and walkers for Minneapolis’ Thanksgiving day – turkey trot – tradition.
November 23: Turkey Trot St Paul | 8:00am All participants will receive an awesome long-sleeve performance T-shirt by Storm Creek, an authentic Turkey Trot St. Paul finisher’s medallion, a timed race on Thanksgiving morning, AND an excuse to eat as much you’d like later in the day!.
November 25: Moustache Run 2017 | 8:00am-12:00pm Bring your sweat catcher to the starting line this November and we will reward you with some sweat swag. Every MoRunner will receive the 2017 knit stocking cap and be inducted into the Moustache Run Club. Yeah, we have no idea what that means, but you’ll be “in”. All finishers will receive the 2017 finisher’s medal, which is inspired by the beautiful bushy wonderfulness of the walrus style moustache. Because we love famous hockey coaches. And The Lorax.
Sensory Jump Night @ Pump It Up Third Tuesday of Every Month | 6:00-8:00pm During this evening event, the play areas are reserved for kids on the autism spectrum and their families. Kids have a great time meeting new friends. Jump, slide, and play with sensory-friendly games in a safe and controlled atmosphere.

Sensory Friendly Movies at Marcus Theatre Select Saturdays | 10:30am We understand that sometimes it is difficult or uncomfortable for families with special needs children to attend movies together. Marcus Theatres Reel Movies for Reel Needs is a specially designed program to serve families with special needs such as autism or other challenges, who seldom attend movies. Reel Movies for Real Needs creates a welcoming and comfortable environment – lower sound, lights up – where families with children who need accommodations will be able to share the experience of seeing family friendly films at a theatre. A select first run movie is featured one Saturday each month at a convenient 10:30 AM showtime.
Bentlyville Tour of Lights November 18-December 16 | Varies Billed as America’s Largest Free Walk Through Lighting Display, Bentleyville invites guests to stroll under the glow of over 4 million lights in a 20-acre park situated on the shores of Lake Superior, while enjoying complimentary hot cocoa, cookies, popcorn, and roasted marshmallows! Get you photo taken with Rudolph, visit with Santa to share your Christmas wishes. Mrs. Claus will also be at Bentleyville to tell stories and hand out candy canes!
Finding Neverland October 31-November 5 | Varies FINDING NEVERLAND is the Broadway musical that tells the fascinating story of how Peter became Pan. Based on the Academy Award®-winning film of the same name, it has been brought to extraordinary life by the team behind Shakespeare in Love, Chicago and Pippin.
Holidazzle November 24-December 23 | Varies Holidazzle creates a community gathering place and holiday destination for people of all ages to come together and celebrate winter in Downtown Mpls. This year’s Holidazzle features stories highlighting local people, products and places that showcase the food scene, art district, park system, active lifestyle, local entertainers and community groups that make our city and our region unique and special. Minneapolis-centric vendors provide options for prepared and packaged food, beverages and unique gift and craft items. This year’s programming lineup will include the outdoor skating rink, visits from Santa Claus, musical performances from bands and choirs, weekly movies featuring holiday classics, themed days, giveaways, surprise and delight moments and more. Heat up and grab a beverage in our warming house, then continue your trek testing out some of Minnesota’s finest products. Vikings, moose, and abominable snow men alike are all welcome. Night Trains Saturdays, November-February | 6:00-9:00pm Night Trains Season comes to museum layouts in a magical way, the lights are turned down, the buildings and street lights glow warmly, setting the scene for specially lighted models of vintage passenger trains. The make believe town of Matlin is buried in a blizzard, and throughout the Museum the layouts are adorned with miniature Christmas lights and decorations.
Cirque Dreams Holidaze November 25-December 3 | Varies Cirque Dreams Holidaze lights up the 2017 season with its 10th Anniversary National Tour. This critically-acclaimed holiday stage extravaganza is a cirque spectacle …Broadway musical…and family show all in one!
Pre K Program at The Works Museum Select Mondays | 9:00am-12:00pm Pre K Mondays feature special activities just for kids ages 3 to 5 and their adult companions. Tots & Trains at Minnesota Transportation Museum 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month | 10am-12pm Explore the Jackson Street Roundhouse & Museum with your little one. Check out their open play area full of train tables. Create a themed craft to take home. Cuddle up and listen to a train themed story read by one of the museum’s passionate volunteers. Snacks for the kids and coffee for the parents are provided.

Music in the Mall @ MOA January-November | Select Dates and Times Mall of America® has an exciting opportunity for school and community groups to perform and share their talents with Mall guests through the MOA Music in the Mall. This series runs January through mid-November and is available on select days each month.
Toddler Tuesdays at MOA Tuesdays | 10am-Noon Toddler Tuesdays is a program that provides events, free entertainment and discounts especially for toddlers. Events include special character appearances, arts and crafts, story time and much more! FREE.
Storytime with Engineer Paul at Choo Choo Bob’s Train Store Tuesdays | 10:00am Engineer Paul hosts a storytime full of songs and smiles. Afterwards, enjoy the morning exploring and playing with the various train sets and tables at this fun train store. FREE.
Preschool Playdates at the Science Museum Tuesdays | Regular Hours This special playdate includes make and take crafts as wells as special theater programs and demonstrations just for preschoolers. Kids age 5 and under are free with paid adult admission. Minnesota Children’s Museum members receive free admission during playdates.
Wee Wednesdays at Midtown Global Market Wednesdays | 10:30am-1:00pm Wee Wednesdays showcase free educational programming, fun crafts and great meal deals each Wednesday morning at Midtown Global Market! Dance with them, experience live puppet theater, learn to cook fun items together in the kitchen, and even pet live animals from the Como Zoo. FREE.
Kids at the Castle: Third Friday Playdates (American Swedish Institute) In the hour before the museum opens, join ASI for visual play, storytelling, music, movement and crafts inspired by ASI’s current exhibits- activities that will encourage creative minds and active hands. Recommended for ages 2-5. $5 per family. Registration not required; check in at the Information Desk by 11 a.m. on the day of the program. Adult accompaniment required.
